Street Takeover Stopped Cold In Lirr Parking Lot On Long Island

An attempted street takeover on Long Island was shut down, halting a chaotic gathering of vehicles in Ronkonkoma.

The incident unfolded in the parking lot of the Long Island Railroad station in Ronkonkoma at about 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16.

The incident unfolded in the parking lot of the Long Island Railroad station in Ronkonkoma at about 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, when over 40 vehicles gathered. 

Two pickup trucks reportedly performed donuts around other vehicles and bystanders as the Suffolk County Police Street Takeover Task Force, along with officers from the department’s Criminal Intelligence unit, moved in to contain the scene, blocking all exits.

Authorities issued the following citations and charges:

Michael Watson, age 19, of Ronkonkoma, was cited for performing a side show and engaging in stunt behavior. He also received three additional traffic tickets, and his 2002 Dodge Ram was impounded.

Jason Merino, age 24, of Medford, was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree under Angelica’s Law for driving with 35 suspensions on nine dates. His 2006 Honda sedan was impounded, and he is set to be arraigned at a later date at First District Court in Central Islip.
